Fitness Never Stops: Maintaining an Active Lifestyle amid the Pandemic

by: Hannah Magdangal, Thames International Undergraduate Student

Working out has become one of my pastime activities,” said Thames Sports and Fitness president, Mikaela Veloso, who, in the midst of COVID19-fostered pressure, has learned to cope through exercise and the overall development of healthier habits. Unfortunately, with the varying levels of difficulty that individuals are experiencing as they adjust to sudden changes, the struggle to work through a new daily routine can make it difficult to find the motivation to exercise. More so, in view of the closing of gyms and other areas that entail physical contact, there are those whose active lifestyles have been indefinitely compromised, and the restrictions make it difficult for them to find a workout routine that allows for the same level of comfort and satisfaction.

Fortunately, these limitations do not stop the students from Thames Sports and Fitness from finding other means to encourage others to keep working out, and even kick-start their journey to a better fit body and healthier lifestyle — all in the comfort of their own homes.

From basic leg and core workouts to challenges with unique twists to sharing sessions with health and fitness experts, Thames Sports and Fitness ensures that staying fit and healthy remains enjoyable, engaging, sweat-breaking, and even informative — regardless of the set-up. Through these workouts, challenges, and special events, attendees are able to both enjoy an hour-long sweat session and look forward to something new for the following week.

Attending the weekly workouts certainly helped in strengthening my mindset and work ethic,” claims Jacob Pascua, former Sports and Fitness president and currently a regular attendee, who throughout the lockdown has gone “from bum to brawn” — and is now closer than ever to achieving his fitness goals. While the current situation still brings with it certain levels of uncertainty, Thames Sports and Fitness recognizes that each individual has his or her own pace and way of adjusting, and continues to open its doors and encourages anyone and everyone to join their activities in order to foster a healthier environment within the community; looking after the well-being of all, even from afar. Because amid this pandemic, fitness never stops.
